The Center for Hemispheric Policy and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce were the host for the “Trade and Prosperity in the Americas”. The President Bush use this panel of discussion as a platform to urge the Congress to pass the Trade Policy between the US and Peru, Panama and Colombia.

Before the President arrived the panelist included by specialist as Ambassador Charles E. The moderator was the Ambassador Cobb who gave each one of the panelist approximate 7 minutes to give their opinion why promoting Trade Agreement with Panama, Peru and Colombia was important for the US.

Several reasons, as to promote trade will improve economic and will help stop immigration. The Trade Agreement was needed in USA, but most of all was an important message US will send to our neighbors, that the United States will support them.

The panelist agreed that several aspects included the benefits to enrich the countries to maintain and promote the free trade with the US, as to develop the economic growth, stabilization in the area and stretch the relations with Panama, Peru and Colombia.

The President Bush said “Miami is the gateway of the Americas”, more than 72 Billion Dollars have been trade through the area, more than 66% have been expand trade commitments and the mechanics need to continue to enrich the US.

“We need to urge the Congress to pass the Trade Agreement”, continues, “we will help workers to keep their jobs and seek democracy, we need a vision of a Free Cuba, we need free speech, free assembly and free elections in Island, a Dictatorship is coming to the end and US needs to be there, to continue to seek the benefits of trade as to promote the economics in Latin America”.

It seems the President Bush was back to basis, he was talking as he did before 9/11, when he will emphasis that the priority of his Administration was the Americas, the importance of trade, commerce and partnership. That was then.
