Julio Scherer nació el 7 de abril de 1926 en la Ciudad de México falleció el día de ayer en la Ciudad de México, a sus 88 años de edad. De 1968 a 1976 el Excélsior estuvo bajo la dirección de Scherer, época en que este diario fue considerado uno de los mejores del país. La asamblea de la cooperativa Excélsior el 8 de julio de 1976 votó por la expulsión de Scherer, quien salió acompañado por otros periodistas y fundan la Revista El Proceso.
